San Simeon

Along California’s Central Coast, the Paso Robles appellation of San Luis Obispo County provides an ideal climate for growing Cabernet Sauvignon.  A dry climate with warm days allows for complete maturation of the grapes and creates ripe fruit flavors.  The maritime influence of the Pacific Ocean creates very cool nights, which preserve the natural acid balance of the grapes.

The quality of the 2003 vintage was excellent.  The weather was ideal with a long growing season that provided great “hang time” for the grapes.  Winemakers Anthony Riboli and Arnaud Debons work closely with multiple vineyards from various districts within Paso Robles.  All vineyard owners are long-term partners in this process.  Each vineyard lot is fermented separately to preserve the unique flavors of its terroir.  After fermentation, the wines gain further complexity from aging in an assortment of oak barrels from numerous French and American coopers.  New oak is used judiciously in order to respect the ripe fruit flavors of the grapes.

Petite Sirah

TECHNICAL INFORMATION

Winemakers Anthony Riboli and Arnaud Debons employ traditional techniques to preserve the individual flavors or terroir of each parcel of land. The must is fermented to 4º Brix and then pressed off in order to delicately extract color without creating excessive tannins. Our Petite Sirah reveals deep, inky purple color. Aromas of blackberry, ripe plum, and pepper greet the nose. Barrel aging in French and American oak contributes notes of vanilla and spice. The mouthfeel is jammy and full-bodied. Firm tannins provide structure as the flavors build to a lengthy finish.

Syrah - Paso Robles

TECHNICAL INFORMATION

The Pretty Penny Vineyard is located in the prestigious Paso Robles appellation of California’s Central Coast. This vineyard’s unique terroir is defined by steep hillsides with calcareous soils. The Templeton Gap is an opening in the coastal range west of Paso Robles. Cool breezes from the Pacific Ocean pass though the Templeton Gap and reach the vineyard every evening. These breezes preserve the natural acidity of the grapes.

The highly versatile Syrah grape is grown in many climates, but the coastal microclimate of the Pretty Penny Vineyard is ideal for the development of intense flavors and aromas, such as boysenberry, ripe plum, and pomegranate. Our family’s dedication to quality continues in the cellar, where winemakers Anthony Riboli and Arnaud Debons employ traditional techniques to preserve the individual flavors or terroir of each parcel of land. All vineyard lots are fermented separately in small, closed-top tanks with pumpovers, which extract color and soft tannins. After fermentation, the wine is aged in French and American oak barrels for 24 months. Our Syrah reveals deep color, round tannins, and plush mouthfeel. The lengthy finish shows vanilla, oak spice, and cinnamon nuances from barrel aging.
